International Stroke Conference 2019

St. David’s research team members presented six professional posters at The International Stroke Conference (ISC) 2019, held from February 6-8th in Honolulu, Hawaii. The ISC is dedicated to the science and treatment of cerebrovascular disease.  The St. David’s HealthCare clinical research team featured presentations by Robert Lee, MD, Medical Director of Stroke Rehabilitation and Neurological Recovery for St. David’s Rehabilitation Hospital at St. David’s Medical Center, Angel Pulido, MD, St. David’s Acute Stroke Medical Director, along with Matthew Cowperthwaite, PhD, Division Director of Clinical Research, Maxim Shpak, PhD, Neuro Research Scientist, Zoltan Nadasdy, PhD, Neuro Research Scientist, Stephanie Lei, RN, Coordinator of Quality Management, and James Waldron, MD, Neurosurgeon.   

St. David’s research presentations included topics on cerebral vasospasm predictors following sub-arachnoid hemorrhages, stroke-related blood biomarkers from gene expression network models, stroke door-to-needle times and use of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for large vessel occlusions, stroke discharge evaluation and stroke readmissions risk factors for intracerebral hemorrhage for patients treated with tPA and MT, and upper body stroke rehabilitation using a two armed robot.
