St. David’s Medical Center among first in Texas to use innovative surgical technology for spinal procedures

Robotic guidance platform improves accuracy, reduces procedure and recovery time

AUSTIN, Texas—St David’s Medical Center recently began using new, innovative technology for improved spinal procedures. The hospital is among the first in Texas to perform spinal surgeries using the Mazor X Stealth™ Edition Robotic Guidance Platform. This technology allows surgeons to improve accuracy by offering comprehensive visualization before the surgery begins.

The robotic guidance platform features interactive, 3-D planning tools for real-time image guidance, allowing for easier manipulation during minimally invasive procedures.

“The future of surgery involves the marriage of robotics and navigation software,” Dr. Rick Wupperman, orthopedic spine surgeon at St. David’s Medical Center, said. “Robotic guidance platforms allow surgeons to operate with greater precision and efficiency.”

The innovative surgical technology can be used for precise positioning of surgical instruments or spinal implants during open or minimally invasive spinal procedures.
